Experience Details

This program is to draw a face and patterns of a Kimono (着物, kimono) on a blank wooden Kokeshi using Ink (墨, sumi) and paints. We will teach you carefully from how to use a brush to how to apply colors. So, even if you are not confident in art, you can finish a nice work.

First, we start with a lecture about the history and types of Kokeshi. You will learn how Kokeshi, born in the Tohoku region, changed from a child’s toy to a loved craft. Knowing this background makes making it more special.

Practice moving the brush while looking at the expert’s example. You can directly learn pro techniques, such as tips for drawing clear lines on a unique curved shape and expressions using ink spreading. This is the great part of this experience.

Now, it is time for the real painting. Time flies as you focus deeply on drawing the face carefully and painting colorful Kimono patterns. The moment a unique face is born, you will feel great love for it.

If you join as a group, showing your finished Kokeshi to each other is fun. You can take your work home right away. Why not decorate your room as a memory of your trip or give it as a gift to someone important?
