Calligraphy : Discover the Essence of Matured Art

Experience Shodo (書道, shodō), Japan’s Proud Traditional Art

Kanji (漢字, kanji) and Hiragana (ひらがな, hiragana) are fascinating characters, considered very mysterious by foreign visitors. MOTENAS JAPAN offers dynamic calligraphy performances synchronized with live music, expressing the elegance of Japanese characters. During the performance, large and powerful characters are drawn on the floor and walls. Guests are presented with personalized souvenirs—a fan (扇子, sensu) inscribed with their names translated into kanji, which is highly appreciated by everyone.

Each team’s character has its own unique shape, generating excitement every time.

Case Study

#1

Team Building with Calligraphy

We conducted a calligraphy session as a team-building event for a corporate client. Teams of 6-7 participants wrote a single kanji character together on one piece of traditional calligraphy paper (半紙, hanshi). Calligraphy is usually seen as an individual practice, but MOTENAS JAPAN offers this unique group method, enabling guests to enjoy learning together.

#2

Calligraphy & Performance

Apart from a regular calligraphy session, guests enjoyed a calligraphy performance by professional calligraphers as entertainment, accompanied by a casual standing reception (懇親会, konshinkai).
