In the morning, we picked rice ourselves and learned how rice is grown. For lunch, we made rice balls (おにぎり, onigiri) and pork soup (豚汁, tonjiru) using our own rice. In the afternoon, we moved to a Japanese cooking class, learning how to make Japanese soup base (だし, dashi) and simple Japanese dishes using fresh foods from each season.
